About Armstrong & Palmer Family Tree
I have been researching two distinct family lines, my line the Palmer's and my
husband's the Armstrong's since 2004. My sources are varied including civil
registrations, census, parish records, IGI, wills, books, antiquarians as well as
fellow genealogists across the world. I do like to cross check sources where possible
so if I have no reference then the entry is suspect.
The most challenging line I have researched is the Armstrongs' which has led me to
undertake a one name study. I started this in December 2008 focusing on Co Durham
Armstrongs' in the first instance. Each family line I have followed so far soon leads
me to Northumberland and Cumberland just like my husband's own line. In addition to
assembling all Armstrong sources and links I am currently exploring how I will publish
this work on the internet. I also have DNA results for my husband which gives some
indication of Irish/Gaelic origins, the Gaelic name for Armstrong being
MacGhillielĂ idir and MacThreinor. My husband's line links amongst others to the
Henderson, Dixon, Davison and Boak families. My husband's mother is a Davison, another
northern name with links to the Richardsons, Kells, Lavericks, Robsons and many others,
all northern families.
My Palmer line traces back to Warwickshire and surrounding Midland counties, my great
grandparents and family having moved north in the 1890s. Other family lines include the
Foster, Farr, Keen, Loxley and Spires families. My mother's line is the Newall line of
Yorkshire. They hailed from Wharfedale and have family links to Hutchinson, Shepherd,
Umpleby, Gill, Holmes, Pettyt, Taylor and other family lines.
